Personally, I believe it’s best if you know the utmost reason why you want a Malaysia web hosting. If you main market is in Malaysia, than it’s okay to do so. If you want quality, I recommend Hostgator above all.

But if you think Hostgator is overkill for your site, here are my top pick for good web hosting company in Malaysia.

1# Internet-Webhosting

This is my previous web hosting before Hostgator. If you visit the site, you will notice a RM80 plan where you can have a shared hosting with 15 add-on domains. Even though the plan is cheap, it is very good. I will be honest here, I still see some downtime but I think it’s acceptable. Usually the downtime happen during late night. So I believe that has something to do with data backup which is a good thing of course.

For a RM80 price, the supports team has given me more than enough. Actually during my 2 years with them, I only ask 3 times for support. The reason is this hosting done their job really well. I haven’t suffer any major issue that needed me to contact time.

The last time I contact them is for migration purpose. I need them to provide me full backup address so that Hostgator team can move my site from Internet-Webhosting to Hostgator easily.

And guess what?

Internet-Webhosting is so professional regarding this matter. They don’t try to make my site as hostage. They even reply to my email in less than an hour. Freaking awesome. So don’t be afraid to use this hosting. They are kind and professional support team here.

Other than Internet-Webhosting, I have used two Malaysia hosting. The first one is so bad that make me feel mad every time I think about it. I bought the hosting for RM60 per year but can only use it for two months before it shut off. The second one is good but not good enough to be recommended.

For the web host below, I never use them. But so far I haven’t heard any bad comments about them. So maybe you should take a look at them as well.

2# Fivio web hosting

Fivio has a cheaper plan compared to Internet-Webhosting but the disk space and bandwidth they give is less than Internet-Webhoting. But it’s not like you can finish all of the disk space and bandwidth anyway… Especially if you are a new blogger or webmaster. It take quite some time to have a stable to traffic to your site.

1# Have been running for a few years

My first time experience with web hosting company is so bad since the web hosting company is down (and never up again) after two month I register. Although the hosting stated that I can have 30 days money back guarantee, I do not even get compensation for the closed web hosting company. Even though I realized every big web hosting right now used to be new in the field, it’s just to risky to use them.

You never know if they are only after your money and will shut off and run away once they have collected enough yearly payment from new customers. The most important, you should always check feedback from other existing customers before made up your mind to use any new hosting.

2# Rarely down (or good up-time)

If you are using a web hosting that costs below RM100, you can expect to have a few hours downtime in a month. There’s nothing to complain if that’s the only price you are willing to pay. But if the web hosting turns out to cause a few days downtime, that’s a big no. Your business can suffer. And your ranking in search engines will drop because the link to your site resulted to server error.

3# Good support team

I am not here to make you scared, but a hosting with a good support team is a huge bonus to the customer. Especially if you don’t have any background in IT or technology. In case you need some guidance to install your site, the support team will really come in handy.

Usually, domains buyer is most likely to buy a domain that register at international registrar such as Godaddy. This is because they also have other domains that are already register with Godaddy, thus they do not need to change registrar if you register your domain with Godaddy too.

Two things that makes domain buyer hates to move registrar is that the domain need to be renew again. For example, your domain still has 5 month till expired but you need to renew it like a new domain when changing registrar.

However, that is just a small factor. One thing that always become an issue is that your domain will lose its pagerank once the registrar company or whois information is changed. You must always remember that many people buy domain because of its pagerank, so there is no point for them to buy it if there is a risk for the pagerank to lose.

Godaddy promotion

Godaddy is having $1.99 promotion right now. If you decided to buy domain names, you can buy at Godaddy now. However, the promotion prices is for the first year only.

Don’t wait for the last day

GoDaddy sends notices at 60 days before domain expiration, 30 days, etc. but they also have a policy that *any* change in your domain contacts (including privacy settings) starts a 60 day no-transfer period. So if you wait for the alert that you are 60 days from expiration, you’ve missed your chance to transfer away from GoDaddy before renewing the domain with GoDaddy.

As you can see above, Godaddy has a policy that doesn’t let you change registrar if your domain is in 60 days of expiration. So of course you need to renew the domain at Godaddy or it will become expired. The best way is  move your domain before the 60 days of expiration. Of course you will lose 60 days, but this is better than losing one year fee for renewing.

I just surfing Godaddy site and then there is a hot video at the main page. So, it’s just normal to play and watch the video. The best part is after the video is finished. I never know before this that Godaddy also gives promotion at the end of video ads.

At the end of the video ads, Godaddy offers me new domain registration for USD7.49. The best of all is that you can still pay for the promotion by using Paypal, unlike most promotion code that only enable you to pay using credit or debit card.

Besides that, the price is still the same that is USD7.49 per year if you choose to register for more than a year. Although most promotion code out there is very cheap, it’s only applicable for the first year. The price for second years and above is still USD10.69.

Domain registration and payment

At first I tried Godaddy to register new domains. By using ‘BOWL99′ coupon code, I should able to get a domain for USD1.15. That means RM4. This is really cheap. However I am not able pay for it since need us to Credit Card, Debit Card, or VCC for paying. Paypal is not allowed for buying domain by using coupon code.

Then I tried to look for Namecheap. Using coupon code, I am able to get a domain for USD8.81. Although this is a lot pricey compare to Godaddy, Namecheap supports Paypal for coupon code. It’s true I can save a lot by using Godaddy, but for me time is more important than money. Why bother a few dollar if I need to wait to get debit card or credit card. VCC maybe a good choice since it is faster. However I am still lack information about VCC.

For payment option, Namecheap is the winner to me while Godaddy is the winner for cheapest domain registration. Oh, you will also get free whois privacy for new domain registration in Namecheap.

If you want to transfer domain, Namecheap always release coupon code that enable you to transfer domain for USD6.99. Meanwhile, you do not nedd any coupon code to transfer to Godaddy since Godaddy already giving USD6.99 for domain transfer. Really cheap.

However, Namecheap USD6.99 prices is only for the first year. If you transfer for 2 years, you need to pay USD6.99 + USD9.69. For Godaddy, the prices is still USD6.99 no matter how many year you choose for transferring.

Thus, Godaddy is the clear winner.

Domain names renewal

Although Godaddy is cheper than Namecheap in term of new domain registration, Godaddy domain renewal cost extra 1 dollar (Namecheap domain renewal is USD9.69 while Godaddy is USD10.69). If you’re lucky, you could find coupon code for domain renewal. You may have luck with Godaddy since there is a lot of domain renewal coupon but it’s rare for Namecheap to give domain renewal coupon.

In terms of coupon for domain renewal, Godaddy is the winner but Namecheap is still the clear winner in terms of the real price.

Marketplace

I have tried the marketplace in Namecheap. I really like it since I can put my domain into sell listing easily. However the highest price that you can put for a domain is only USD250. That’s why namecheap has always been the marketplace to get cheap domain name. If you think the domain that you decided to sell worth more than USD250, I suggest you to use Sedo or Dnscoop. For Godaddy, I can’t comment anything since I never try their marketplace yet.

So how the hell I manage to beat other web hosting companies in Malaysia for the keyword? What’s the real secret behind it?

This is what I did.

First secret: Internal linking

If you see on the sidebar, there is a link with anchor keyword ‘web hosting promotion’.

The advantage of a blog compared to company websites is that the a blog usually has hundred pages while a company website usually has around 10 pages.

I clearly beat them in term of internal linking.

Second secret: Guest post in specific country

I have written two guest post that contains backlinks to this site with ‘web hosting promotion’ as the anchor keyword.

Those companies probably have done a lot of link building such as forum profiles link building or article marketing.

However nothing beat the link juice that come from authority website in the specific country. If you want to rank well in Google My, you need to have backlinks from Malaysia website. You either need to pay others for link, or you can have win win situation by writing good quality guest post.

Third secret: Don’t lazy to do off page SEO

To be honest, I don’t like to build backlinks since it consumes a lot of my time.

Thus I only use FREE software such as Social Monkee that automatically submit your page to various social bookmarks.

I know that links from social bookmarking sites cannot be counted as quality backlinks. But if you are the only one that do that and your competitors don’t do it, then you will be the winner for sure.

• Usually customer will buy hosting and domain name from Namsahaz. I will not do this since .com price at Namsahaz is RM40. So, I bought my domain at Mercumaya.net and then propagate it to Namsahaz web server. By doing this I already saved RM10 per year.
• Besides that, Namsahaz only supports 2 add-on domains for every account. If you have more than 3 blogs, than Namsahaz is not for you. However you can try to contact them to discuss about this matter. Who knows they are willing to give extra add-domains for a price.

To be honest, RM10 extra for the domain is acceptable as you need to have extra knowledge just to save RM10. You need to know about DNS and you need to learn how to properly configure your DNS and point them to Namsahaz. Unless you like to do the dirty work, always consider to buy the domain name along with the web hosting.

However, if you need a web hosting that can provides 10 add-on domains or more, Internet-Webhosting is your best bet. I am using them right now. Check their latest promotion, who knows you can grab a great hosting package at an affordable price.
