How to transfer domain to Namecheap
Sometimes, you feel that there is a need to transfer your domain from current registrar to another domain registrar. Currently my domains are hosted at Mercumaya and I already planned to move them to Namecheap due to several reasons.
Namecheap as domain registrar
Why Namecheap? That is the question that I am sure you would ask. Yes, there are another great place to host your domain like Godaddy. Besides that, Mercumaya is already a good place to buy domain name with their consistent RM30 per domain price.
Godaddy might be good. You can easily find Godaddy related coupons in the net. In term of price Godaddy always beat Namecheap. Somehow Godaddy isn’t suitable for unverified Paypal user like me. It needs time to verify a Paypal account and I don’t want to waste my time just for a few dollars.
Mercumaya is already good. But I found that Namecheap is better. With Namecheap, every of your domain names are provided with whois guard. At Mercumaya you need to request for the whois guard and they will give it to you for free. In term of payment, both Mercumaya and Namecheap supports Paypal but only Mercumaya supports local bank transfer (Maybank, Bank Islam, CIMB). For me, I am just using Paypal for domain and hosting payment. So I don’t give a shit about other type of payments.
If both Mercumaya and Namecheap support Paypal, why don’t I just stay with Mercumaya? To pay in Ringgit Malaysia, of course Mercumaya price is already cheap. Somehow since I paid in USD (Paypal), I need to pay USD10 compare to USD9.69 at Namecheap. In addition, Namecheap sometimes released valuable coupons for domain registration and domain transfer. With a coupon, you can transfer a domain at only USD6.99.
After transferring the desired domain to Namecheap, the current period of the old domain is still validated plus you will get additional one year. That means you have nothing to lose.

How to transfer domain to Namecheap
Transferring a domain is really easy. You just need to follow a few steps.
- Type the domain that you want to transfer and pay for the transfer. To get cheaper price, you can search for ‘Namecheap transfer coupon’ through search engine. Usually USD6.99 is the cheapest you can get to transfer domain after discounts.
- Then Namecheap will send an email to you with instruction of verifying the transfer. To verify that you own the domain that are going to be transferred, you need to provide EPP code for the domain at your Namecheap account. You can get the EPP code from your current domain registrar. If your current registrar do not provided EPP code, ask for them directly. Beware of certain registrar that do not provided EPP code so that you cannot transfer your domain to any registrar. That means you’re stuck to them forever.
- After providing the EPP code, the transfer process will initiate. In a few hour you will get an email from eNom Inc that ask you to verify and approve the transfer. And that’s all.
Usually the transfer will take place after a week in case you change your mind and wish to cancel the transfer. However you don’t need to worry because your website should run normally during the transfer process. For Namecheap, the domain name server (DNS) is automatically updated according to the old DNS that we set. That means you don’t need to configure anything after the transfer completed.
